can we even rescind it? i thought the UN had policies in place to prevent against this.
The way we would go about it is to contact the office it was submitted to, and if we are past the point of no return, we will see it through.
However, we are releasing a press release to the effect that this was not the AMS, and make sure this is disseminated widely.
Is anyone else seeing the connection to Simone de Beauvoir here? The oppressed "students" reinforce their own oppression through a lack of solidarity and by judging and turning on one another.
The minute students ask for something, all their fellow students turn on them? Aren't students one of the lowest income groups in the country. Aren't students born into poverty having done nothing to deserve their situation?
So this just in, millions of children die of stavation. We can barely hear the objections of UBC students. We are "too busy" to deal with that.
All of a sudden someone has a real complaint, and you're upset about the way it was handled? Really! I am a fan of what Blake did, but even if you aren't, you should really get your priorities straight.
You're taking pleasure in oppressing your fellow students and doing the work of society for you. The government doesn't want to spend more money on you. They want people forced into low income jobs.
You guys talk about being embarassed by Blake. I'm embarassed by the rest of you. Everyone deserves access to higher education. You want an educated and successful population? You need to educate them. Even some of the most moronic conservatives will admit that to maximize economic gain you need to provide widespread access to education.
If you're mad about how Blake went about things, you should probably look in the mirror. He probably knew you would've objected to his actions.
UBC Students: We want lower tuition.
Blake: It seems like UBC students want lower tuition.
United Nations: Free education is a human right. We are willing to take complaints about human rights violations.
Canada: We agree with the United Nations.
Blake: Well, it seems the logical conclusion from these facts is that I should tell the United Nations about what's going on. After all, they're actively encouraging my complaint.
Students told Blake what they want. The United Nations has a sign that basically says "Send us your complaints." Where exactly is he stepping over the line?
HAHAHA
But really, re-read that, it's disgusting.
Well put anonymous! I too sympathize with Frederick and find the behaviour of the council disgusting. Denying the disability seat demonstrated their true colors. Shame on all of you for your superficial indignation!
I'm going to encourage people to use their names, because its easy to shame others when one is anonymous. There are also too many anonymouses to attempt to distinguish between at this point, so as Jeremy did, and as I am doing, use your names.
I'm really happy that Council acted the way it did, immediately and precisely to take care of such an important issue. They contacted as many students as possible, through e-mail, facebook, an online form, personal calls and various other mechanisms, and all the while studying for exams and writing papers. They acted in accordance with the wishes of the students, after a consultative process, something Blake and Tim could learn from.
Though I understand that this isn't over yet, Blake and Tim will likely hold onto their titles as though they were the last life preserver in the boat, I have a reaffirmed faith in the Council, and quite honestly this whole experience has made me less cynical about student politics because its shown me that our elected representatives have a line drawn, that they have values, and that they're willing to act on them in accordance to the wishes of their electorate.
i want lower tuition, but at the same time president blake has no right to go rogue. sorry guys.
